About The Position

Turning Point is seeking a full-time Recreation Therapist to work with behavioral health patients (substance abuse/mental health) within an inpatient and partial treatment setting. Recreation Therapists assess the patient's leisure and recreational habits and then provide therapeutic interventions to improve their daily functioning. The main method of intervention is group modality. For more than 40 years, Turning Point Care Center has provided a place of healing and hope to adults who suffer from behavioral health disorders and/or substance abuse. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Occupation Therapy or related field is required.
  • Knowledge of variety of recreational activities is required.
  • Must possess ability and willingness to work professionally and effectively with staff, medical staff, patients, administration and others.
  • Ability to complete documentation that is consistent with policy and good clinical practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Occupational Therapist (OT) or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is preferred.
  • Experience working with mental health and/or substance abuse patients is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements therapeutic recreation and psycho-education services for all patients that includes physical fitness, creative expression opportunities, leisure, and general psycho-education learning activities.
  • Administers therapeutic recreational assessment.
  • Documents services and patient response in medical record.
  • Provides progress reports for treatment team meetings.
  • Contributes to the development of treatment plans.
  • Maintains age-appropriate recreation/education supplies and equipment, including purchasing supplies and materials for patient reinforcement/reward program, and holiday celebrations
  • Attends and participates in patient treatment team meetings as part of the interdisciplinary team.
