About The Position

Gemma Services is seeking a Part-time, Recreation Therapist to join our Residential Treatment Program located in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The position is a part-time, 20 hour per week position that requires some flexibility and some weekend hours. Our nonprofit agency provides education, nurturing, and healing for children, teens, and families through evidence-based and individualized services. We offer education programs, mental health services in residential and community settings, foster care and adoption services, and prevention programs. Residential Treatment provides 24/7 clinical treatment and trauma-focused care for children and youth who have experienced traumas and/or significant mental health concerns. Our goal is to help them heal and learn new skills so they can live successfully in a home and community setting.

Requirements

• Proficient reading, writing, and grammar skills.
• Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills.
• Ability to respond to children’s unsafe behaviors in a trauma-informed manner.
• Ability to regulate own emotions and behaviors during frequent stressful situations.
• Proficient PC skills.
• Knowledge/understanding of applicable laws and regulations, i.e. PA Residential Regulations (3800) and PA Child Protective Services Law.
• Knowledge of Emergency Safety Physical Intervention Procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy, therapeutic recreation or a related field required. Related fields include expressive arts therapy or leisure studies.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in recreation therapy preferred.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred.
• Two (2) years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Developing and implementing group therapeutic recreation activities with the children in the residential treatment program.
• Utilizing predictive analytics data from Insight Generator to develop activity interventions or leisure opportunities to address the identified needs of the children.
