This role involves conducting activities for clients/patient groups, working individually or as a member of the treatment team. The therapist will assist patients in leisure activities to engage and improve mind, body, and spirit, and patient adjustment to life with disease, injury or disability, analyzing and reporting behavioral patterns to the treatment team or others. The position also includes requisitioning, storing, and maintaining equipment and supplies, and implementing and delivering recreational therapy that serves to have a positive effect on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of psychiatric inpatients. The therapist will assess and evaluate patient needs and interests through various means relative to Recreation to Recreational and/or Social Adjustment, develop and implement individualized therapy plans, and execute them, keeping everyone abreast of progress through written and verbal reports. Responsibilities also include scheduling patients, keeping attendance and therapy records, interfacing with utilization review, social services, and discharge planners, and assisting in successful patient discharge. The role involves assessing and suggesting purchases for equipment and supplies that pertain to therapeutic recreation, abiding by department policies, procedures, and operational guidelines, supervising students and volunteers, and participating in departmental inservices, teaching, and other departmental activities. The position functions under the general supervision of a coordinator/Clinical Director.
