About The Position

Pay Range: $22.14 - $32.00/hour Job Summary:The Recreation Therapist provides support and clinical services to adolescents, and adults, adjusting for the effects of age, culture, background, experience and developmental status. This employee is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating therapeutic recreational activities that address the treatment needs of the client.

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Recreation Therapy, Physical Education, Art Therapy/Education, Drama, Early Childhood Education, Music Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Sociology or Special Education.
  • 1-2 years working with youth with behavioral/emotional issues
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • TCI Certification (training provided by OLV Human Services)
  • New Hire Orientation

Responsibilities

  • Teach and coach individuals served in activities including daily living skills, leisure utilization skills, motor skills, music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature study, swimming, social recreation, sports programs, relaxation activities, leadership skills and games.
  • Adapts lesson plans and activities to individuals’ ability and treatment needs.
  • Insures that appropriate supplies are available, in good working condition and are safe.
  • Identifies and links residents with appropriate community resources.
  • Supervises individuals served during activities, implementing appropriate behavior management techniques to include low level and therapeutic physical intervention.
  • Formulates an assessment of prioritized treatment issues to be addressed (relevant to the scope and purpose of the individual’s program), based on the information gathered.
  • Formulates a treatment plan which is written in behavioral terms, is measurable and changes over the course of treatment.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of outside resources relevant to the population served.
  • Implements appropriate record keeping procedures (monthly activities calendar, weekly schedule, multi-d reports, eCR reports, evaluations/assessments).
  • Assists in transporting clients as required.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
