The Recreation Therapist in the Behavioral Services Unit is responsible for observing, analyzing, and recording patients' participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, and modifying treatment programs as needed. This role involves participating in the development of treatment plans to meet patient needs, encouraging clients with special needs to acquire new skills and engage in health-promoting leisure activities, and counseling patients to develop leisure activities. The therapist will collaborate with the treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs, conduct sessions to improve patients' mental and physical well-being, and provide individualized treatment activities. Additionally, the role includes determining the need for and presenting behavior modification plans, instructing patients in activities to meet their specific needs, obtaining information to assess patients' capabilities, needs, and interests, and designing, planning, organizing, directing, and participating in treatment programs to facilitate rehabilitation and prevent psychosocial problems. The therapist will also develop specific goals and plans, collaborate with supervisors and co-workers, perform and document progress notes and other clinical documentation, ensure the availability of activity supplies and equipment, and provide input to unit programming.
