Requirements

A bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation.
National Certification from the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

Administers comprehensive clinical services to patients, including testing, analysis, and evaluation of seriously ill patients or those with complex medical problems.
Formulates treatment plans consistent with patient needs.
Assists in supervising staff and students.
Helps develop in-service training programs for staff development.
Maintains an inventory of supplies and ensures proper use and maintenance of equipment.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Communicates regularly with the patient care team, patient, family members, and others involved in patient care.
Responds to requests for professional information or advice and refers complex matters to appropriate staff.
Assesses patients and identifies problems.
Instructs and trains patients and families regarding pertinent aspects of patient care.
Plans treatment schedules for optimal use of staff and equipment to provide high-quality patient services.
Plans, develops, and implements result-oriented treatment plans responsive to individualized patient needs with clear, measurable goals.
Modifies treatment plans according to patient responses.
Provides direct patient care and performs specialized treatments.
Collaborates with other members of the patient care team.
Utilizes community resources to plan for continued patient care, support, and follow-up after discharge.
Recommends and procures appropriate equipment.
Works with the manager to formulate a plan for professional development.
Attends educational in-services.
Participates in professional activities and organizations to stay current with trends, practices, and developments.
Follows established protocols for documentation specific to the program/setting.
Accurately records daily charges for services rendered.
Practices organizational and universal standards for sterile technique and infection control.
Attends team conferences to promote an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
Works cooperatively with other team members to maintain consistency in providing high-quality, results-oriented service.
Conducts in-service programs and provides training to other staff.
Serves as a clinical instructor to students.
Performs other related duties as required.
