About The Position

Recreation Staff are responsible for checking in, obtaining waivers, demonstrating safety protocols, and transporting our guests by shuttle. They are responsible for providing educational and entertaining interpretive tours and programs both indoors and outdoors. This position will involve leading tours via kayak, mountain bike, snowshoe, and on foot throughout the property and Redhead Mountain Bike Park.

Requirements

  • Driver’s License required
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to provide consistent high-quality customer service
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal presentations in front of small to large-sized groups
  • Ability to listen to the public and be responsive to inquiries and comments
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaborate and contribute positively in a team environment
  • Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and assignments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite point-of-sale systems, and digital file organization tools (e.g., SharePoint, Google Drive, or similar)
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse public in a friendly and open manner, while conveying information or teaching

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children and/or adults in an educational environment preferred
  • Experience in teaching, museum interpretation, theater, storytelling or group leadership preferred
  • Experience with kayaking preferred

Responsibilities

  • Present educational programs, guide tours, facilitate activities, and provide demonstrations and presentations using multiple interpretive and teaching techniques
  • Receive, welcome, and orient visitors to the Minnesota Discovery Center
  • Administrative tasks pertaining to equipment rentals including but not limited to: checking in guests, assisting with rental and waiver paperwork
  • Assist in the maintenance and protection of the site’s grounds, facilities, and equipment
  • Study site-related materials and attend training to enhance the delivery of the site’s interpretive programs
  • Follow safety procedures
  • Shuttle guests by van or other methods to activities
  • Load, unload, and assist guests with kayaks, mountain bikes, canoes, snowshoes, and other equipment
  • Develop interpretive tours under the direction and guidance of the Education and Program Manager
  • Work with digital image capture equipment to create content for on-line social media platforms and virtual tours
  • Teach proper etiquette, safety, and technique with bikes and kayaks/canoes, and other equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness of shuttle, trailer, and equipment
  • Other related duties as assigned
