About The Position

The City of Diamond Bar Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a highly energetic, customer service oriented individual to join its team. This is a part-time position with 30 hours per week, typically Tuesday through Saturday. Actual work hours and schedule may vary based on program and department needs, and may include some evening assignments. The Recreation Specialist will assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and supervision of various recreational programs and events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two (2) years of college-level work in an applicable field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience demonstrating responsibility, preferably in recreation, administrative, management, or customer service.
  • Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to sit for up to two (2) hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move from one location to another in the course of doing business.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, practices, and programs common to the field of recreation and community services.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, and procedures, including operating a computer, cell phone, and general electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of supervision of part-time and volunteer staff.
  • Knowledge of techniques of marketing for promotional program areas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and make oral presentations.
  • Ability to work well and collaborate with other City departments and agencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with City officials, supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and respond to public and staff requests for assistance (on the phone, in writing, and in person).
  • Ability to prepare detailed and accurate narrative reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of certified AED, CPR and First Aid Safety Course is required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and supervision of youth and adult sports programs, field allocations and reservations, youth and teen programs, and Citywide special events.
  • Coordinate daily program operations.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure the safe and effective delivery of recreational services.
  • Monitor program activities to ensure compliance with City policies and procedures.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to participants and the public.
  • Maintain program records and reports.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
