About The Position

Performs specialized work conducting and directing recreational programs and activities at a designated park, playground or other recreational facility. Promotes good relationships with neighborhood and activity groups. May lead one or more personnel when engaged in activities requiring additional recreation staff. Responsible for professional recreation work in directing specified activities at recreation facilities or major playgrounds. Assists in providing a healthy and safe environment for the general public visiting the facility. Recognizes, corrects and reports safety issues to supervisor. Ability to perform tasks which require physical ability in a safe/efficient manner in a variety of weather conditions. Participates directly in the planning and execution of programs and special events. Leads year-round programming at the recreation facility which may include being assigned to a specific population. Coordinates a variety of programs which may include after school, school break and summer programs. Works extensively with assigned population providing mentoring and guidance. Ability to work a varied schedule based upon the needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of recreation experience
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Ability to instruct individuals and groups, to carry out in-service training as well as suggest and initiate new innovative activities and programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to schedule and maintain a staff at the assigned facility.
  • Ability to maintain cash receipt reports and point of sale function at the assigned facility.
  • Skilled at managing groups of program participants with a variety of backgrounds and personalities.
  • Ability to relate to assigned population while maintaining professional boundaries and setting an outstanding example of personal excellence.
  • Supervision may be exercised over designated programs and facility volunteers.
