About The Position

Operates and supervises the administration and professional work involved in programming, directing, and leading city-wide Adult and Youth athletic programs; directs, leads, and instructs, other recreation events and activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of increasingly responsible recreation athletic administration experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs.
  • Provide lead supervision and guidance to assigned staff.
  • Maintain a variety of records and reports.
  • Interpret, explain, and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Operate a variety of recreation equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the public.
  • Must be available for on-call hours during programs and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education or a related field or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, directing, organizing, and supervising Adult and Youth sports leagues, batting cages, tournaments, individual athletics, and programs for the City of Cheyenne.
  • Developing policies and procedures for assigned activities.
  • Planning, overseeing, and completion of activity registration; coordinate and schedule leagues, tournaments, and appropriate facilities; as assigned; visit activity sites.
  • Promoting all Adult and Youth activities by assisting the Recreation Specialist in writing press releases, design flyers, appear on radio or television, and ensure all programs are marketed effectively.
  • Aiding and input with overall facility maintenance, operation, and control.
  • Providing reports relating to attendance, scheduling, and complaints from participants and evaluations of assigned programs and activities.
  • Assisting the Recreation Manager to renew and update contracts for independently contracted user groups.
  • Maintaining leagues and tournaments that create revenue to the City of Cheyenne, meeting budget and collection of fees.
  • Working directly with the School District and Kiwanis Community House in scheduling facilities for the Adult and Youth Activities.
  • Working cooperatively with the Volleyball Officials and Softball Umpires and ensure the contract stipulations are met.
  • Assisting in Department or Division wide special events including but not limited to Superday and Wyoming Senior Olympics.
  • Transferring and setting up a variety of light to heavy supplies, equipment in support of assigned activities.
  • Maintaining, approving, and submitting payroll time sheets monthly as assigned; monitor total hours worked.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required.
