What We Offer This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. The payrate for this position is $19.54/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. Location In this position you can expect to work on site at a recreation center operated by the City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation. What You’ll Do The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is dedicated to customer service and enhancing the health of residents and the environment through innovative programs and safe, beautiful, and sustainable places. Through the operation of 30 recreation centers across Denver, DPR can offer affordable facilities, programs, and activities to residents and visitors year-round. Recreation centers offer several organized classes including, but not limited to, aquatics, arts and crafts, cultural and social activities, fitness and sports, health, special events, tours, and more. Activities are organized for children, youth, adults, people with disabilities, and active older adults for maximum enjoyment by all of Denver’s diverse communities. Recreation Services Representatives are an integral part of delivering top-notch services to visitors of Denver’s network of recreation centers. As such, these positions will utilize their people skills and solution-driven enthusiasm to understand and exceed customer expectations. Recreation Services Representatives provide leadership for the Front Desk Team by coaching Recreation Assistants, sharing knowledge of DPR programs and services, and resolving various customer-related issues.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • One (1) year of customer service work in recreation, retail, hospitality or other related industry.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service-related experience
  • Cash handling experience, including the use of a point-of-sale (POS) system to conduct transactions
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • An ability to work with a diverse group of customers, including youth
  • Prior experience working in recreation and with youth
  • Bilingual skills (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Greet and communicate with recreation center guests using the F.A.C.E. philosophy (Friendly, Attentive, Consistent, Empowered) regarding recreation services and activities
  • Utilize a point-of-sale system to process membership and program sales, refunds, transfers, activity registrations, and similar transactions
  • Provide guests with information regarding membership and activity registrations; explain options and answer questions in-person and over the phone
  • Handle difficult, sensitive, and escalated guest relations issues and act to resolve them
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized front desk, monitor and clean equipment for checkout, maintain and stock appropriate forms, flyers, and documents for front desk operations
  • Monitor guest adherence to facility rules and guidelines and report disruptive behavior to appropriate staff members
  • Manage emergency situations such as evacuations, medical emergencies, suspicious activity, or other unexpected situations
  • Maintain various records such as inventory, activity reports, receipts, memberships, reservations, and activity rosters
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines to open and/or close the Recreation Center
  • Attend agency-required customer service and ActiveNet training, provided at no cost
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
