About The Position

The City of Beverly Hills Community Services Department is seeking an outstanding recreation professional with a diverse background in recreation leadership, recreation and parks/sports facility management, and recreation and enrichment program planning expertise, who also knows how to have fun! The Recreation Services Manager will oversee a Community Center or Facility, the Youth Recreation Division, and the Park Rangers program, managing a team of regular part-time, part-time, and full-time staff responsible for day-to-day programs, event planning, and facility operations that support youth programming and community groups. This role is an exciting opportunity to reimagine and innovate youth programming, bringing fresh ideas to the table while empowering staff to bring those ideas to life through hands-on implementation of new services and programs that serve our vibrant and engaged community. As part of the department's management team, the ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, who has the ability to develop high performing staff, deliver outstanding customer service, write reports, and will be a team player with a positive attitude and ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment. An important aspect of the Recreation Services Manager's role is to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide and expand high quality city recreation offerings and manage multiple operational agreements with community groups while managing the staff needed to keep the division running smoothly. This position also serves as staff liaison to the Council-appointed Commissions, and oversees the City's youth sports organizations, including Little League, and AYSO, managing vendor and contract service relationships. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to implement high quality programs, have strong expertise in collaborating with groups and organizations, and have strong budgeting expertise to manage program budgets across the division. The position also requires excellent critical thinking, writing, and management skills to analyze problems, resolve conflicts, identify opportunities and develop effective solutions, practices or policies, as well as forge relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Service, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in community services and/or recreational programming.
  • Two years of supervisory responsibility.
