About The Position

The Vermont Department Of Corrections is looking for a Recreation Services Coordinator to work with incarcerated individuals at Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury. In this role, you will develop and deliver leisure programs for incarcerated individuals, assist in developing the budget for recreation services, and be an active participant on the Recreation Fund Committee. Responsibilities also include handling commissary distribution and documentation, basic tablet issuance and support, and managing the inventory of supplies and equipment. The coordinator will process recreation-related request forms, hire incarcerated individuals for positions like facility barbers or unit recreation representatives, and prepare incarcerated individual payroll. Additionally, the role involves assisting education services with overseeing the incarcerated individual library, direct supervision of barber services, providing facility reports, and overseeing the cleanliness of the gym and associated equipment.

Requirements

  • High School degree/equivalent or higher and one (1) or more years of experience working in physical education, recreation program or comparable program/organization or correctional experience.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
  • Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates.

  • Fire Safety certification
  • Suicide Prevention certification
  • Advanced Communication Techniques certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Provide relevant information for DOC PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Requirements; previous institutional employers will be contacted and required to provide information regarding substantiated incidences of sexual abuse or resignation during a pending investigation of an allegation of sexual abuse.
  • Candidates who have any felony conviction record or who, within the past five (5) years, have been placed under supervision or sanctioned for a misdemeanor conviction must receive a waiver from the Commissioner of Corrections in order to be considered for employment.
