Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Programmer for Aquatics and Fitness assists with the development, implementation, execution, monitoring and evaluation of programs within their focus area as well as supporting supervising and coaching part-time staff and volunteers. This role will assist the Aquatic Coordinator and the Recreation Coordinator to increase awareness and encourage community participation in programs and events at the Town’s recreational facilities, parks, and trails.

Requirements

  • Post secondary diploma in recreation leadership or related discipline in the applied arts or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years demonstrated experience developing and delivering municipal community engagement activities, planning and delivering programs for diversified audience groups and recreation programs.
  • Certifications in High Five Principles.
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR level C certificate.
  • Knowledge of policy development, program planning, community development, capacity building and provincial/federal policy, regulations, and funding programs.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Occupiers Liability Act, the Day Nurseries Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other safety/employee legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Due to the nature of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) satisfactory to the Town (Those 17 Years & Older) or the completion of Declaration of Minors – Working with Vulnerable Individuals Self Declaration Form (Those 16 Years and Younger) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Aquatic or fitness related qualifications would be considered and asset.
  • Experience with ActiveNet an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the respective portfolio of program areas including: set up, execution and evaluation of events/programs/activities and/or facility bookings.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with internal Town staff and external contacts, regulatory agencies, government and non-government agencies and the public.
  • Support the Coordinator(s) in conducting program interest surveys, analyzing results, research industry trends, and make recommendations on changes to seasonal programs/ special events and assist implementation.
  • Support the recruitment, training, supervision and performance evaluations of staff and volunteers.
  • Follow proper protocols and work in compliance with Town policies and legislated regulations; assist Coordinator to ensure staff are trained in appropriate Health & Safety areas. Follow established procedures to recognize abuse and at-risk participants in accordance with the Child & Family Services Act.
  • In absence of the Coordinator(s), oversee various functions in the assigned portfolio, in collaboration with the Supervisor, when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
