Salt Lake Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Certified Therapeutic/Music Recreation Specialist. We understand that not all wounds are visible. Salt Lake Behavioral Health is a private 118 bed freestanding psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health and substance abuse treatment for adolescents and adults. We serve the Salt Lake City and surrounding area using evidence-based treatments in a comfortable, confidential atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, patient-focused approach to diagnosis and treatment. The Certified Recreational Therapist is responsible for planning and implementing therapeutic and evidence-based Recreational Therapy services at Salt Lake Behavioral Health in order to meet the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and cultural needs of patients. This position involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and supporting patients in their mental health journey. The Recreational Therapist strives to build a strong therapeutic alliance through empathetic and continuous patient care, observation, interaction and role modeling to patients. The Recreational Therapist is responsible for conducting assessments, facilitating RT group interventions, documenting progress and discharge planning for assigned patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of psychiatric patient care techniques and mental illness preferred
  • Current national certification (CTRS) through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
  • Current license (TRS) through Utah Department of Professional Licensing
  • CPR certification
  • Successfully complete training for restraints and seclusions within 90 days of employment
