About The Position

Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA) is seeking enthusiastic and dependable coaches to support players in our Grassroots Recreation Soccer programs. Coaches help create a positive, safe, and engaging environment where players can develop soccer skills, build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop a lasting love for the game. Opportunities include Saturday PreK/Kindergarten coaching and Recreation team coaching for players in 1st grade through U19. Weekday practice schedules are flexible based on coach availability and program needs. ASA provides coaching resources, equipment, and ongoing support to help coaches succeed.

Requirements

  • Must generally be at least 15 years old
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check provided and paid for by ASA.
  • Experience working with children (e.g., coaching, teaching, camp counseling, mentoring, babysitting, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches/volunteers, players and families.
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate about youth development through sport
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliable transportation and commitment to punctuality

Nice To Haves

  • Previous soccer playing, coaching, youth development, education, recreation, or athletics experience.
  • A genuine passion for mentoring youth and supporting confidence, teamwork, healthy habits, and social-emotional development.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled practices and games.
  • Send weekly emails to players and families.
  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate soccer lessons, practices, games, and activities.
  • Actively participate in demonstrations, games, drills, and activities to encourage player engagement and enjoyment.
  • Lead your team of players in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.
  • Build positive relationships with players by serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect.
  • Collaborate with the Recreation League Director or Age Group Managers to ensure each session runs smoothly.
  • Assist with setting up, organizing, and storing program equipment before and after each session.
  • Communicate professionally with ASA staff, players, and families.
  • Uphold ASA mission and values by promoting inclusion, respect, youth development, and positive community impact.
