About The Position

Alameda is an island city of 78,000 located next to the city of Oakland and offers a full-service municipal recreation program. School Year Recreation positions are generally scheduled to work starting mid-August. Dynamic, ethical, and enthusiastic individuals who share our values are encouraged to apply! Recreation Leaders plan, organize and conduct a variety of recreation programs for youth ages kindergarten through high school. Positions are available for school-year programs for youth and teens. Activities include sports program, arts and crafts, cooking, dance, drama, city-wide special events and excursions. The Alameda Recreation and Park Department's goal is to provide programs which offer youth opportunities for the enrichment of the mind and body through the wholesome and creative use of leisure time. Hours may vary depending on the position and responsibilities. The mission of the Alameda Recreation and Park Department is to provide programs to the community with trained staff. A wide variety of social, physical and educational opportunities are offered for personal enrichment through wholesome and creative use of leisure time. Below are some of the standards expected of Recreation and Park Department Staff: Staff are expected to always be respectful of others and maintain a friendly, courteous and professional attitude. Depending on the assignment, staff must wear either professional business attire or a Department uniform that includes a staff shirt and name badge. Uniforms are provided. Staff must maintain facilities and help keep them neat and clean. Staff are expected to perform quality work and to plan effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR, or agree to get both as a condition of being hired.
  • A recent T.B. Test prior to the beginning of the program, or agree to get one as a condition of being hired.
  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • Must provide proof of identity and eligibility for employment in the United States.
  • Must provide documentation to establish both identity and work authorization, including a valid United States Social Security card at the time of hire (photocopies not accepted).

  • Volunteer or Recreation experience desirable.
