About The Position

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) is seeking a Recreation Leader for its ExLP after-school program. This role involves maintaining a safe and enjoyable recreation program for children aged 5-13, leading various activities, and supporting the after-school program. GVRD is a special service district that has been serving area residents for over sixty years, managing extensive park space and community facilities.

Requirements

  • General recreation principles and practices.
  • Rules and regulations of age-appropriate recreation activities.
  • Basic art and craft techniques, games, and sports.
  • Ability to learn recreation activities, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively under the supervision of the Senior Recreation Leader.
  • Ability to attend meetings and trainings related to work.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire date.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
  • Practice para educator test provided by GVRD - must obtain at least 70% or above test score to qualify for hiring. Once hired, Vallejo City Unified School District para educator test (Certificate of competency) will need to be completed within three (3) months after position has been offered to candidate.
  • Unofficial transcript indicating a minimum of 48 college units or more.
  • Proof of legal right to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience with youth recreation programs or childcare settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and supervise various recreational activities, including sports, crafts, games, and field trips.
  • Lead recreational activities; supervise children; enforce safety rules and guidelines.
  • Resolve conflicts among children.
  • Monitor activities within a facility and/or outside; provide information to the public on program activities.
  • Respond to parent, school or community concerns and issues; direct to higher level staff, as necessary.
  • Perform first aid as necessary.
  • Assist in the general cleaning and upkeep of facilities.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
