About The Position

The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Recreation Leader to join their team. This role involves preparing and maintaining recreation facilities for daily operations and special events, ensuring safety policies are followed, and providing guidance to program participants. The position offers an engaging work environment where innovation and fun are encouraged. Programs are hosted for adults 18+ and include fitness classes, computer classes, bingo, arts and crafts, and special events. The ideal candidate will be fun, friendly, and enjoy providing excellent customer service in a recreation center setting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Parks and Recreation department policies and regulations
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance skills
  • Knowledge of various types of recreation programs (i.e. computers, crafts, bingo, special events)
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, registration software
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to understand and follow safe working practices
  • Ability to perform general maintenance and service requirements of equipment in area of responsibility
  • Ability to maintain the appropriate state of Arizona driver license with relevant endorsements
  • Ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public and other employees
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have/obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of Hire
  • Must successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment
  • Must be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout employment
  • A post-offer physical assessment is required

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and sets up facilities for daily operation and special events.
  • Inventories facility supplies regularly and provides information about any items that might be needed.
  • Assures facilities and equipment are in good working order and arranged to meet safety standards and the requirements of users.
  • Performs basic maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • Interacts with the public in responding to questions and assisting in preparation for programs and events.
  • Prepares recreation facilities by setting up meeting rooms, audio visual equipment, tables, chairs and/or recreational equipment needed for scheduled activities.
  • Provides guidance to participants regarding equipment use and safety, checking equipment for needed repairs and returning equipment to storage upon program completion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid
  • Eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week
