Recreation Facilitator (Canada Summer Jobs) - New Westminster
About The Position
Headway Centre is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Recreation Facilitator through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The Recreation Facilitator will support the development and delivery of recreational, social, and community-based programs within the centre and community. This position offers valuable hands-on learning opportunities in recreation facilitation, event planning, communication, teamwork, and community inclusion within a supportive non-profit environment. The successful candidate will assist with group activities, participant engagement, community outings, and day-to-day program operations while contributing to a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
Requirements
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial and federal legislation and regulations
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Comfortable working in a team-oriented and participant-focused environment
- Organized, dependable, and adaptable in a fast-paced setting
Nice To Haves
- Interest in recreation, social services, community inclusion, or non-profit work considered an asset
- Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities is considered an asset, but not required
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing, and facilitating recreational and community-based activities
- Support arts, fitness, workshops, games, and group recreation sessions
- Help organize activity materials and prepare program spaces
- Encourage participant engagement and support accessible participation
- Assist staff during community outings and recreational events
- Support transportation coordination and participant safety during activities
- Monitor participation and communicate observations with supervisors
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and welcoming environment
- Support day-to-day program operations and participant engagement within the centre
