About The Position

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Area Shaw AFB. Duties include performing maintenance and repair of electrical and gasoline powered gardening equipment and travel trailers. This involves routine periodic maintenance and mechanical or electrical repairs of two and four-cycle gasoline powered engines (e.g., log-splitter, roto-tillers, chain saws, aerators, lawn mowers, boats). As required, the incumbent will replace internal engine components such as rings, pistons, valves, gaskets, rods, and bearings according to manufacturer's specifications. The role also involves preparing power equipment for seasonal storage, including cleaning, changing oil, draining gas, and replacing components like oil, spark plugs, filters, and belts. Equipment will be checked and loose components tightened. Campers, boats, and trailers will be prepared for winter storage (draining water systems, cleaning interior) and summer use (checking and repairing electrical, propane, and plumbing connections/components, repacking wheel bearings, changing tires). General maintenance will be performed throughout the season to ensure equipment is serviceable. Minor sewing on tents, tarps, and dining canopies may be required. Contract repair will be recommended for items not repairable in-house. The position ensures all equipment is clean, sanitized, and ready for use. A preventive maintenance and maintenance program will be instituted, monitored, and documented, including record-keeping, scheduling routine maintenance, and maintaining an inventory of high-wear items. The work area must be kept neat and organized. Customer service duties include issuing recreational items and equipment, instructing customers on safety rules and equipment use/care, checking returned equipment for cleanliness and damages, providing information for trips and events, maintaining accountability of funds, resale items, and equipment, recording transactions and fees, verifying receipts, securing cash, tickets, and receipts, preparing cashier reports, making deposits, preparing monthly activity reports, and conducting monthly and semiannual inventories. This is a Position of Trust. An uncommon tour of duty, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, may be required. Occasional travel may be necessary. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet the experience requirements.
  • Have knowledge of equipment assembly to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair.
  • Experience fixing small electrical or gasoline powered gardening equipment or similar equipment is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer's part lists, specifications, and repair manuals is required.
  • Knowledge of types, use, care, and safety of recreational equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of a physical.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • May be subject to an uncommon tour of duty.
  • This position is designated as a drug testing position (TOP).
  • Must be able to provide a REAL ID or present a combination of source identity documents authorized to facilitate access to the installation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patrons prompt, courteous information for trips, programs, or other scheduled events.
  • Maintains accountability of funds, resale items and equipment.
  • Accurately records transactions and fees collected.
  • Verifies accuracy against receipts on daily basis.
  • Ensures cash tickets, receipts, etc., are securely maintained.
  • Promptly collects fees from patrons.
  • Promptly prepares cashier reports and makes deposits.
  • Prepares timely, accurate monthly activity reports as required.
  • Conducts monthly and semiannually inventories and assists in the accurate control of issue equipment.
