About The Position

The Recreation CTRS Internship at the Southern Utah Veterans Home offers a valuable opportunity for students pursuing a degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field to gain hands-on experience working with veterans. Interns will assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating recreational therapy programs designed to improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of residents.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or related degree program.
• Basic understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with elderly and veteran populations.
• Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and facilitating therapeutic recreation activities tailored to the needs of veterans.
• Support the Recreation Therapist in conducting assessments and documenting resident progress.
• Engage residents in individual and group activities to promote socialization and enhance quality of life.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and ensure comprehensive service delivery.
• Maintain accurate records and reports in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
