About The Position

Responsible for caring and supervising the children attending the before & after school and summer camp programs. Directly interacts and leads activities with children. Represent the City of North Liberty’s Recreation Department in a professional and exemplary manner under all circumstances. Work involves performance of no supervisory duties.

Requirements

  • High school degree with 6 months to one-year previous recreation or childcare experience or related work/field.
  • High School students may be considered.
  • Knowledge in childcare/babysitting.
  • Good communications skills, both oral and written, reading and monitoring skills.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • CPR and first aid certifications required.
  • Possession of State of Iowa Driver’s License; Obtain State of Iowa Class D Chauffeur’s Driving License.
  • Completion of criminal records and child abuse background record check and child abuse mandatory reporter training for the State of Iowa.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures; youth development levels; recreation activities; applicable State laws or accreditation standards.
  • Skills in dealing with children and parents; leading recreation activities; making quick decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, hear, and understand effectively to communicate with parents or guardians.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees, officials and the public.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace or citizens encountered during work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care, safety and supervision to children in our before and after school, all-day, and summer camp programs.
  • Provide excellent customer service in assisting the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Report and chart all disciplinary problems and other incidents as necessary.
  • Perform light janitorial duties as needed so that facility remains clean and safe for patrons to use.
  • Oversee program check-in and out procedures daily.
  • Communicate information to parents.
  • Comply with state laws, applicable safety and occupation standards, and department policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive working environment through cooperation with recreation personnel, library personnel, parks personnel, and all other city departments.
  • Responsible for general knowledge in various sports, games, arts, and crafts.
  • Coordinate, lead, and teach activities.
  • Attend staff meetings to coordinate lesson plans; attend additional training courses and staff meetings as assigned.
