About The Position

The Recreation Coordinator plans, organizes, coordinates, maintains, and implements facility usage, programs, registrations, activities, and special events. The Recreation Coordinator identifies community and customer needs, evaluates participation levels, recruits and markets to customers, facilitates recreation experiences, has oversight of recreation assets, equipment, facilities, supports oversight of recreation budget activities, and ensures safety and adherence to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate
  • Five (5) years of experience working in recreation, education or a closely related field
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires certification in CPR/First Aid within 6 months of probation.
  • Experience working with adults, youth, and teens from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience facilitating recreation programs, youth sports coaching, and other services
  • Experience with a recreation registration system (ActiveNet preferred)
  • Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Experience hiring, training, and developing staff
  • Customer service experience and skill managing various customer interactions
  • Experience with community engagement and outreach
  • Experience in recreation disciplines, including but not limited to fitness, youth sports, active older adult programming, and/or arts and culture

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, coach, and support center staff, including front desk operations
  • Conduct operational duties including opening and closing of the facility, submitting maintenance work orders, addressing guest concerns, cash handling, bank deposits, and general facility auditing
  • Evaluate and examine equity in core programming, develop and implement new and innovative programs for the community
  • Coach, facilitate, and coordinate seasonal programming and activities
  • Assist the Supervisor with various administrative tasks and projects as assigned
  • Maintains recreation including handling and resolving customer and employee complaints that do not require a supervisor, develops staff, program and facility usage schedules and coordinates programs and activities held in a Recreation Center, Park, or citywide recreation facility.
  • Communicates and collaborates with Recreation Coordinators, partner organizations or city representatives to coordinate the use of facilities and implementation of programs that have been identified through collaborative efforts to meet the needs of the community and customers.
  • Ensures customers adhere to recreation policies and regulations and assists in maintaining a safe environment
  • Recruits, hires, and trains coaches, instructors or volunteers to achieve quality programming delivery.
  • Reviews and evaluates programs for effectiveness and participation levels; analyzes and uses findings to increase program participation and assist in the development of new classes, activities or programs.
