About The Position

The Recreation Coordinator at Weisser Park Youth Center is an energetic, organized individual who excels with children, creating fun, safe, and engaging programs that encourage repeat participation. This role involves leading and delivering youth and community programming, from planning activities to supporting staff and ensuring smooth program operations, ultimately creating a positive experience for all participants daily.

Requirements

• Two years post-high school education in Physical Education, Leisure Studies, or related field OR equivalent experience
• Ability to track participation data and maintain records
• Strong communication skills-both with youth and the public
• Ability to follow safety procedures and program guidelines
• First Aid & CPR (required within two weeks of hire)

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with youth or in recreation programs preferred
• Valid Indiana Driver's License (if operating City vehicle)
• ServSafe Certification

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and evaluate youth and community activities
• Maintain supplies, equipment, and organized program spaces
• Track attendance, participation, and program data accurately
• Support daily operations including registration, setup, and communication
• Step in where needed-covering programs, assisting staff, and supporting facility needs
• Provide daily oversight of 5–10 seasonal staff
