About The Position

The Recreation Coordinator position at Rose Hill Manor, within the Frederick County Division of Parks & Recreation, is responsible for the coordination of museum spaces and the development of program opportunities. This role ensures the appearance, maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of assigned museum/park facilities. The coordinator also serves as a liaison for school space reservations and facility coordination. Key duties include facilitating the safe and efficient operation of recreation programs, creating and developing new recreational programs, actively leading groups of students in recreation classes and tours, coordinating with user groups, contractors, part-time staff, and volunteers, and maintaining records and reports, as well as inventory and upkeep of materials and equipment. Supervision is received from the Museum Manager.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in parks and recreation management, education, museum studies, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in parks and recreation operations, museum or educational programming, or facility coordination
  • Current certifications in Community First Aid, CPR, and AED or ability to obtain these certifications within 30 days of hire
  • Interest or background in history and willingness to expand knowledge to provide a wide range of interpretive programming
  • Knowledge of museum best practices, recreation facility safety/maintenance, and risk management practices
  • Knowledge of educational and interpretive principles and practices
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, the Division/Department software applications
  • Skill to oversee program development and lesson plan creation
  • Knowledge and application of classroom and behavior management techniques and theory
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, participants, customers, and the public
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement recreation programs; lead group recreation & sports; and teach skill-based activities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer driven, active recreation/ museum environment
  • Ability to work in a museum setting with frequent verbal interaction with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers, co-workers, and the general public
  • Ability to review directives, prioritize tasks, and respond to customer inquiries
  • Compile, maintain, and prepare various data and reports
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and direct the work of support staff in programming
  • Ability to effectively evaluate emergencies and unexpected situations and promptly respond in an appropriate manner
  • Effective spoken and written communication skills including the ability to produce materials for publication, to speak before community groups, to accurately perform clerical and record-keeping duties, and to explain regulations to user groups
  • Ability to work with various groups/ages of people in indoor or outdoor settings
  • Ability to organize large groups for tours and special events
  • Knowledge of crowd management protocols

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient day-to-day operation of museum reservations and programs by coordinating museum and recreation programs, group rentals, part-time support staff, and by providing direction to patrons
  • Produce and oversee county recreation programming including budgeting, lesson planning, supply purchasing, instruction, and incorporating community input on program preferences
  • Coordinate with Museum Manager regarding support staff work scheduling based on facility calendar and program needs
  • Lead various program
  • Support programs and events hosted by the Division of Parks and Recreation
  • Develop partnerships to achieve mutually beneficial goals and enhance community opportunities
  • Assist in the promotion of all recreation activities in order to maximize community knowledge and involvement
  • Assist in both developing and implementing safety protocols that are in compliance with Division policies
  • Provide on-call assistance for evening, weekend, and holiday facility operations
  • Ensure that facilities are organized, properly set-up, and prepared for daily scheduled activities and inspect that all equipment is safe for use
  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns promptly and appropriately
  • Assist the museum manager with special events and large-scale programs
  • Perform custodial duties to maintain cleanliness of facility
  • Supervise, lead, and evaluate various recreational activities
  • Maintain safe and fun environment for participants by following established standards of conduct for activities and facilities
  • Perform routine maintenance to equipment and amenities
  • Clear walkways for continued programming during inclement weather conditions
  • Perform other related duties as required
