About The Position

The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties Inc. is seeking a part-time Recreation Attendant for an after-school program serving youth in grades K-8. The Hudson LEAPS Afterschool program offers educational support, recreational opportunities, skill-building, character education, and a nutritional snack. The program aims to promote positive attitudes towards school, delay childbearing, and prevent violence by offering engaging alternatives for up to 240 youth. The program operates every school day with 3-hour structured sessions.

Requirements

  • Must have an understanding of cultural family differences and values with the ability to remain non-judgmental.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of urban, suburban and rural cultures and with community members from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and web-based systems for daily tasks and timekeeping.
  • Must be self-motivated.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an atmosphere that builds friendships, encourages healthy social interactions, and promotes recreational opportunities for children.
  • Communicate clearly with youth employing active listening skills.
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Define expectations clearly.
  • Support and motivate youth in selecting appropriate activities.
  • Respect youth and families’ cultural norms when selecting activities.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate, goal-oriented activities in partnership with youth.
  • Model and reinforce appropriate social behaviors.
  • Understand and adhere to HIPPA privacy laws.
  • Work regularly outside the office and in the field to engage with participants.
  • Perform daily tasks and timekeeping using basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and web-based systems.
  • Maintain regular and steady attendance.
