About The Position

The Recreation Assistant performs daily operations in the assigned recreation facility and/or park. On an assigned shift, responsibilities are limited to the activities and operations on a daily shift during normal operating hours and/or special events. Daily operations also include general maintenance and cleaning in an assigned facility and/or park. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
  • Requires a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic data utilization methods, including tabulating information and performing routine calculations to support operational tasks.
  • Knowledge of applicable procedures, standards, and reference materials used to guide daily work activities.
  • Skill to operate and safely use equipment, machinery, tools, and materials required to perform assigned duties.
  • Skill to communicate effectively with others to provide guidance, assistance, and clarification of procedures and expectations.
  • Skill to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions and complete routine work in accordance with established practices and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in repetitive or short-cycle tasks by applying well-defined rules, procedures, and situational awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the daily workflow and operations of the assigned recreation facility and/or park during assigned shifts to ensure programs, activities, rentals, and services are delivered efficiently and spaces are clean, organized, and prepared for scheduled use.
  • Opens and closes assigned facilities in accordance with established procedures to ensure building security, operational readiness, and compliance with City policies.
  • Prepares park and facility spaces for programs, meetings, rentals, and special events by coordinating room setup, equipment, and supplies, and completing timely post-event breakdown and reset to maintain operational readiness.
  • Assists with the development, planning, and implementation of recreation projects, programs, and special events by following established plans, specifications, and guidelines to meet community needs.
  • Monitors patrons, programs, and activities during assigned shifts to ensure a safe, orderly, inclusive, and welcoming environment; addresses concerns promptly and escalates issues in accordance with City policies and safety standards.
  • Enforces all rules, regulations, rental policies, and facility guidelines governing the assigned park or recreation facility to ensure public safety, compliance, and a consistent customer experience.
  • Provides in-person and telephone customer service by greeting patrons, answering questions regarding programs, rentals, registrations, memberships, and services, and ensuring guests understand applicable procedures and policies.
  • Accepts, processes, and reconciles cashless and other approved payments for registrations, rentals, and services in accordance with established accounting policies and departmental procedures.
  • Performs routine clerical and administrative support duties such as answering phones, printing and organizing program or rental paperwork, maintaining records, and assisting supervisors with routine administrative tasks.
  • Assists with athletic field preparation, facility setup, and routine maintenance activities to support scheduled recreational use, including practices, open gym sessions, and special events.
  • Performs general maintenance, custodial duties, and cleaning of assigned parks and facilities, including restrooms, program rooms, lobbies, indoor spaces, surrounding outdoor areas, and trash removal to maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance.
  • Assists with overseeing the work of community service workers as assigned, providing basic direction and monitoring work completion in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operates assigned facilities with minimal supervision by demonstrating working knowledge of facility operations, schedules, and commonly used software systems; completes incident documentation and required reports in accordance with City standards when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
