About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department (MCPRD) strives to enrich the lives of our residents by providing exciting and safe recreational amenities and programs. This department plays a critical role in ensuring Mecklenburg County achieves its vision of being a community of pride and choice for people to LIVE, WORK and RECREATE. The department serves a population exceeding one million residents and manages over 21,000 acres and 230+ parks, nature preserves, greenways and facilities. Mecklenburg County is looking for a Part-Time Recreation Assistant to join our Park & Recreation Team! The selected candidate will oversee facility rentals, provide customer service, setup/breakdown of events, and assist with implementing hands-on programming administered to all ages throughout the year. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing basic maintenance duties such as light cleaning, trash pick-up, and other duties as assigned. This position will be based at Naomi Drenan Recreation Center and will work up to 19 hours per week. The selected candidate must have availability to work with our afterschool programs beginning at 3:00pm. The schedule may also include evenings and possible weekends depending on business/facility needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
  • Referee at various sports activities; provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or lineperson at games
  • Assist with various recreational programs for all ages
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from public
  • Assist with special events and field trips
  • Oversee facility rentals
