About The Position

A Seasonal (SEAS) Recreation Assistant is responsible for participants’ safety and well-being during recreational activities and instructs activities according to Recreation Division policies and guidelines. In the boys basketball programs, the assistant helps with program operations, supervises drills, supports participants in improving their skills, manages a team during games, and contributes to game operations. Session plans are provided and supervised by the Program Coordinator.

Programs run at the following locations and times:

Kindergarten–Grade 3: Hyannis Youth & Community Center, Saturdays from December 5, 2026, through February 27, 2027, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. No program December 26, January 2, or February 13.

Grades 4–5: Barnstable United Elementary School, Tuesdays and Thursdays from December 1, 2026, through February 25, 2027, 2:30–4:30 p.m. No program December 22, December 24, December 29, December 31, February 16, or February 18.

Grades 6–8: Barnstable Intermediate School, Wednesdays from December 2, 2026, through March 3, 2027, 6:00–7:30 p.m. No program December 23, December 30, January 13, February 3, or February 17.

Requirements

• Must be age 14 or older.
• Intermediate knowledge of basketball.
• Ability to be a positive role model for participants.

Responsibilities

• Help operate boys basketball programs.
• Supervise drills and help participants improve their basketball skills.
• Manage a team during games.
• Contribute to game operations.
• Ensure participants’ safety and well-being during recreational activities.
• Instruct activities in accordance with Recreation Division policies and guidelines.
