The Recreation Assistant works directly with residents with love, acceptance, friendliness, and compassion, inviting them to live their lives in fullness. They develop activity programs based on residents' interests, strengths, and needs, conducting activities in an atmosphere of warmth, success, encouragement, and joy. The role involves spending the majority of time working directly with residents, fostering their communication, self-expression, and personal identity. The assistant must be aware of resident interests, needs, and goals, helping them to be successful. They are also responsible for fostering a spirit of open communication and cooperation within the department and with other departments, as well as completing required documentation and care planning accurately and in a timely manner. Creative planning and implementation of activities that meet different levels of abilities are essential, as is assisting residents at meals and activity groups.
