Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must possess or obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within two (2) weeks of hire
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must successfully pass a background check through the St. Helens School District
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with the public, students, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Demonstrate respectful communication, positive attitude, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Knowledge of rules and fundamentals of a variety of sports, games, and recreational activities
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to be active, creative, engaging, and dependable
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children, youth, students, or large groups preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage participants in after-school recreational activities
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for youth participants
  • Assist with the preparation, setup, organization, and cleanup of crafts, activities, games, equipment, and program areas utilized throughout the after-school program
  • Monitor, maintain, and organize program equipment, supplies, and facility spaces
  • Enforce program rules and safety standards while promoting positive behavior
  • Address participant concerns and resolve conflicts in a professional manner
  • Assist with preparing and distributing flyers, brochures, promotional materials, and public relations materials
  • Provide clerical support, including program registrations, answering phones, and maintaining correspondence with other divisions and agencies
  • Assist with the development of class schedules and implementation of activities and programs
  • Coordinate recreational programming and facility usage with schools, community partners, businesses, and outside agencies
  • Work collaboratively with the St. Helens School District and community organizations utilizing recreation facilities
  • Assist with site operations, including opening and closing facilities as assigned
  • Support participants, families, and staff with excellent customer service
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
