About The Position

Frostburg State University (FSU), Department of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport Management, has an immediate opening for a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach RECR 610 Sport Coaching Pedagogy. This is a seven-week, fully online asynchronous graduate course. RECR 610 focuses on the pedagogical and evidence-based principles that underpin how coaches facilitate athlete learning and development. Course content is centered on how to apply coaching theory to coaching practice, including but not limited to athlete-centered coaching, skill acquisition and motor learning, the constraints-led approach, Teaching Games for Understanding, positive youth development, coach-athlete relationships, practice design, assessment and feedback, and reflective coaching practice. Assignments throughout the course should allow students to connect pedagogical concepts to their coaching practice(s) and work toward establishing an evidence-informed coaching philosophy. The ideal instructor will be able to create and/or present asynchronous content that engages students in learning and discussion, respond to students in a timely manner, and grade graduate-level student work. Equally important, the instructor will be able to guide students in making the connection between coaching theory and practice, with a primary focus on how to best design effective learning environments and developmentally appropriate practice experiences.

Requirements

• A relevant master’s degree in sport coaching, coaching education, sport pedagogy, kinesiology, physical education, sport psychology, motor learning, or a closely related field.
• Three years or more in coaching practice, educating coaches, and/or teaching coaching-related courses in the higher education setting.
• Familiarity with contemporary coaching approaches.
• Knowledge of applied learning approaches (e.g., applying scholarly concepts to real-world coaching practice).

Nice To Haves

• Doctoral degree or ABD preferred.
• Combination of coaching practice, educating coaches, and teaching coaching-related courses in higher education preferred.

Responsibilities
