Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma in Recreation OR diploma in related field with completion of a course in adapted programming and experience in long term care
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Microsoft Word, Excel
  • 1-2 years recreation experience preferably in a long-term care setting

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of resident programming
  • Understands the concepts, differences and benefits of both Therapeutic and Diversion programs and is able to identify the appropriate use of each form of programming
  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of resident programming/rehabilitation in groups or individually
  • Communicates changes in resident functional status as related to individual or group programming
  • Participates in the planning of group and individual program offering suggestions, support and education to staff in the delivery of meaningful activities
  • Assists in identifying personal education needs
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures
  • Public relations
  • Fundraising
  • Liaising with stakeholders e.g.: schools, service clubs
  • Customer service
  • Facilitating resident, family and volunteer interaction
  • Resident programming within the Households and special events and facility programs
  • Obtains feedback from customer and implements improvement strategies
  • Recommends improvement activities
  • Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy
  • Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Participate in all required occupational health and safety training
  • Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing, as required by Extendicare/ParaMed
  • Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor
  • Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk
  • Respects and preserves the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times.
