About The Position

The City of Ypsilanti and the Parkridge Community Center is looking for a Recreation Aide who can assist with providing facility and administrative support to the department in the summer months. This role involves a variety of duties including office and administrative support, database coordination, leading activities, monitoring customer areas, tutoring students, and assisting with special projects and promotional materials. The position requires interaction with a diverse population and offers a flexible 20-hour per week schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to deal directly with a variety of clientele and maintain a positive image for the community center as a whole.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and possess the ability to be a strategic thinker.
  • Proficiency in basic math, proofreading, filing and telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the various segments of the community.
  • Knowledge of Washtenaw Community College programs (specifically those offered at the Parkridge Community Center).

Nice To Haves

  • Some college classes preferred.
  • Early education courses a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide office and administrative support to the department.
  • Help with the coordinating of departmental databases including but not limited to data entry, reports, and quality assurance.
  • Lead individual and small group project activities to a diverse customer base.
  • Assist staff in monitoring classrooms and areas within the facility where customers gather.
  • Tutor grade school students in the content areas of Reading, Writing, and/or Math.
  • Work with department staff on special projects and assignments.
  • Provide administrative services for assigned area, which includes word processing, filing, and the composition of letters, memos, reports, forms, and instructional materials; outstanding customer service and telephone coverage.
  • Handle inquiries from external and internal customers, employers, agencies, and college staff regarding Parkridge Center services and programs and provide referral to additional WCC and City of Ypsilanti services as needed, serving as liaison and communication link.
  • Maintain program files, updating when needed; prepare certificate of completion for special offerings; and organize data for periodic reports.
  • Provide assistance to Parkridge Center staff with preparation of daily, weekly, monthly activities or special events, including distribution of recruitment materials.
  • Interact directly with diverse population.
  • Aid in the preparation/update of promotional material.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
