About The Position

This Non-appropriated Fund position is assigned to the Base Pool at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. It is a FLEX position with no guaranteed hours; work may range from 0 to 40 hours per week. The position may require evening, weekend, or holiday work.

The Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) monitors the swimming area to protect patrons, manages access and scheduled opening times, and responds to emergencies. Duties may also include pool and facility upkeep and other tasks needed for daily operation of the swimming area.

Requirements

• Complete a background investigation with favorable results.
• Possess CPR, First-Aid, and Lifeguard Training certificates.
• Have practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules, and procedures.
• Be able to work shifts covering evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• Hold an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first-aid training and CPR training for both children and adults.
• Meet applicable eligibility and background requirements.
• Provide a REAL ID or an authorized combination of source identity documents to facilitate access to the installation.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observe the swimming area to ensure patron safety.
• Ensure the swimming area opens at scheduled times and that only authorized persons are admitted.
• Rescue swimmers in trouble, promptly administer first aid, and call for medical assistance when needed.
• Warn swimmers about unsafe environmental or health conditions, including rough water or hazards, and recommend closing swimming areas until conditions are safe.
• When working at pools, operate water pumps and control chemical additives as needed to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
• Frequently inspect diving boards for cracks or loose matting and ensure necessary repairs are made.
• Perform cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, and other related areas as assigned.
• Perform other related or incidental duties assigned for daily operation of the swimming area.
