About The Position

This position will be assigned to the Aquatics Center on Peterson Space Force Base. Applicants must be available to work rotating shifts between the hours of 0700 through 2000, including weekdays, late evenings, and weekends. Applicants must be able to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds or more. Applicants are referred to the hiring official on bi-weekly basis. This vacancy announcement may close early if a candidate is selected prior to the established closing date.

Requirements

  • Must complete nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training upon being hired.
  • Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment; such experience must be gained in the private sector, government, or similar pool program.
  • This position is contingent on trainees' successful completion of the Lifesaving and Water Rescue Certification as well as Basic First Aid and CPR Trainings administered but the Base Pool nationally certified course instructors.
  • This position is contingent on passing a swim test to verify swimming proficiency.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a childcare background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain current record of immunization.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Direct deposit is required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • A probationary period may be required.
  • Pre-employment requirements must be satisfactorily met prior to Entrance on Duty (EOD).

Responsibilities

  • Incumbent will follow a training plan and spend time learning, procedures, techniques, skills, and requirements of swim instruction with the objective of successfully developing the vocational skills and technical knowledge of an aquatics instructor to independently teach non-swimmers and improvers of every age and ability, recreational swimming to meet goals, refine skills, and stay safe in, on, and around water.
  • In addition to the fundamental Learn-to-Swim courses including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Adult Swim, and private swimming lessons.
  • Incumbent will perform lifeguard duties at the pool. including but not limited to continuously observing swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
