About The Position

Lighthouse Behavioral Wellness Centers is seeking a Recovery Support Specialist to join their 9-8-8 response team. This role involves using personal experiences and learned skills to empower, stabilize, and assist individuals experiencing crises related to mental illness, trauma, and/or addiction. The position requires meeting performance standards and Lighthouse will provide necessary tools and training for success. The Recovery Support Specialist provides recovery support services in various settings, including the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), Urgent Recovery Centers (URC), 9-8-8 response calls, and other crisis intervention scenarios. This role is supervised by the Lead Care Coordinator of CSU and/or the Manager of the URC.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or an equivalent competency.
  • Minimum one year participation in local or national consumer advocacy or knowledge in mental health and substance use recovery.
  • Current certification as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist as described in ODMHSAS Standards and Criteria for Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist 450:53-3-1.
  • Expectation of core competencies in relation to individuals with co-occurring disorders, trauma informed care and collaborative care.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of recovery.
  • Knowledge of the elements of recovery practices and how to collaborate with others to identify their personal strengths and goals.
  • Able to work within an integrated team to facilitate care by assessing consumer needs, helping them evaluate treatment options, coordinating care with internal and external providers, and monitoring progress.
  • Understand the meaning and importance of cultural awareness and spirituality in the recovery environment.
  • Ability to exercise good professional judgment and personally cope with conflict and difficult interpersonal relations.
  • Ability and willingness to share one’s personal learning experiences to promote recovery and crisis stabilization.
  • Assist consumers in regaining control of their lives and recovery processes.
  • Ability to identify ways to help make the environment more recovery-oriented and increasing comfort towards the people served.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job requirement.
  • Must possess skill in working cooperatively and effectively with clients, staff, management, and other professional and community groups.
  • Must possess skill in exercising mature judgment in dealing with people.
  • Must possess skill in presenting ideas clearly and accurately.
  • Must possess skill in reading and comprehending the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized recovery supportive services in home and community settings to individuals and families to promote change, facilitate crisis stabilization, and recovery.
  • Assist the Integrated Care Team by monitoring and evaluating the needs and abilities of the consumer, and helping them function more adequately through their own strengths and community resources.
  • Complete all agency documentation of services thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a role model for recovery and assist consumers in identifying barriers to treatment engagement.
  • Perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
  • Meet agency standards of productivity and fiscal responsibility.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in huddles, care and discharge planning, and staff meetings.
  • Complete Lighthouse required training and resulting follow-up and consultation as required at hire, annually, and as directed by Supervisor.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or other management.
