About The Position

Terros Health is seeking a compassionate, professional, friendly, self-starter, organized individual with good time management skills to join their team as a Recovery Coach / Peer Support Specialist. This role is part of the Terros Health’s Families FIRST program and will significantly impact the lives of families working to overcome substance abuse for family reunification and self-sufficiency. The Families FIRST program assists parents involved with the Department of Child Safety (DCS) who are experiencing substance abuse, helping them move through the addiction recovery process. Terros Health is a healthcare company with 50 years of experience providing primary care, mental health, and substance use treatment, focused on the whole person and dedicated to helping people live their lives in recovery and saving lives. This is a full-time position with flexible scheduling options, including potential weekend and evening work, across various locations in the Valley (Avondale/West Valley, East Valley, Central Phoenix).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • For BHPP: Six (6) weeks of Behavioral Health experience (volunteer experience may be accepted) and one (1) year of continuous work experience.
  • For BHT: A minimum of 3 years of experience in the behavioral health (BH) field, including working with multi-problem families in the field of substance abuse and child welfare.
  • Has received substance use treatment services and has completed the goals of such treatment, being substance-free for a minimum of six (6) months following treatment.
  • Is a paraprofessional with training and/or certification in a substance use disorder or Recovery Coach Program (Certification training is available upon hire).
  • Must pass a background check in accordance with Terros Health and DCS requirements (no restraining orders within the last 36 months).
  • Must have or obtain a valid Arizona Driver License, be 21 years of age with a minimum 4 years driving experience, and meet requirements of Terros driving policy.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card (Level 1) or apply for one within 7 working days of employment.
  • Customer service skills, especially good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with flexibility, and within prescribed deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification training in a substance use disorder or Recovery Coach Program (available upon hire at Terros Health).

Responsibilities

  • Draws upon personal growth experience to carry the message of hope and recovery to individuals referred to substance use treatment services.
  • Cultivates and secures a connection with the enrolled individual, teaching personal responsibility and serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Provides direct services to individuals using evidence-based practices and strategies, such as outreach and engagement, personal assistance in completing daily living skills, linkage to community supports, transportation, in-home services, and group facilitation.
  • Conducts initial in-person contact with the client within twenty-four (24) hours of referral from DCS to engage the client and provide program information.
  • Informs the client about confidentiality laws and obtains written consent to coordinate care with DCS, other agencies, and family members.
  • Provides a copy of the signed AFF Release of Information to DCS and other applicable agencies within five (5) business days.
  • If initial in-person attempt is unsuccessful, notifies the referring DCS Specialist within three (3) days to discuss alternatives.
  • Makes a minimum of two (2) additional outreach attempts within five (5) business days of referral receipt.
  • Closes a case for reasons of Unable to Contact, Unable to Engage, or Refusal only after a minimum of three (3) documented attempts within five (5) days.
  • Completes and uploads required documents into DCS’ designated record keeping system within prescribed timeframes.
  • Completes required documentation in client records, including Progress Notes, conforming to professional practice, state licensing regulations, and company procedures, meeting Production Metrics.
