About The Position

Connective is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative programming in the social services sector. We strive to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all. This position will provide service planning creation, monitoring and ongoing support as well as the development and facilitation of therapeutic community programming for residents of Vancouver Island Therapeutic Community who have been affected by problematic substance use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related human and/or social service field plus two (2) years recent related experience, including training or experience in a supportive recovery setting; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience might be considered.
  • Training and/or certifications of 20 hours or more in the following areas is required: Trauma informed practice, crisis intervention and resolution, psychosocial programming for substance use disorders, or trauma informed practice.
  • A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations.
  • An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities.
  • Demonstrated an ability to deal with potential violence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check.
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check.
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate.
  • Class 5 Driver's License and driver’s abstract.
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients.
  • Willing to complete Food Safe Certificate (Level 1).
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.

  • Prior experience with 12 Step Programming & Smart Recovery is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Completes services plans in Salesforce, develops standardized treatment goals among participants, monitors and evaluates services plans and treatment goals based on resident progress and emerging needs.
  • Completes service planning individually and facilitates Therapeutic Community programming in a group setting. Review goals, give feedback on progress, and supports residents in recovery goals.
  • Provide regular updates at team meetings on residents’ status, progress, and challenges, including community involvement, ministry participation, housing stability, external counselling, probation compliance, and overall integration, while tracking adherence to program expectations and progress toward individual goals and program phases.
  • Maintains and updates all required documentation, including case notes, reports, and statistical data; ensures accurate tracking of resident progress, program expectations, and outcomes.
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate Therapeutic Community programming, including orientation, morning and evening meetings, peer support sessions, and primary classes, delivering structured learning activities grounded in recovery support, life skills development, and Therapeutic Community principles.
  • Supports residents in achieving and maintaining recovery from addictive substances and behaviours; teaches life skills, community survival skills, and promotes engagement in acceptable social and recreational activities in the community.
  • Develops and facilitates support groups for residents as required.
  • Reviews and evaluates resident progress, providing ongoing feedback and adjusting service plans and interventions to support recovery goals. Provides feedback and support to residents and/or their families.
  • Develops and provides prevention and education activities as required.
  • Engages in the development of interpersonal, therapeutic relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other external agencies, professionals, ministries and the community.
  • Provides guidance and support to volunteers, students, and newly hired staff.
  • Maintains resident records and contributes to program reporting requirements, including statistics and reports as required.
  • Assists with program operations as needed, including Urine Screening Testing, room inspections, discharges, encounter groups etc.
  • Performs regular on-call duties on a rotating basis.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
