About The Position

Treasury Board and Finance – Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) is responsible for the collection of revenue and the administration of Alberta’s tax, revenue and related benefit programs. The focus of our organization is to ensure a fair, efficient and effective provincial tax and revenue system. Our organization offers a balance between work and your home life and provides options for flexible work arrangements. Business Solutions within TRA provides a diverse scope of services to the Branch and to Alberta Government Ministries, in the support of Collections and Recoveries activities. The Paralegal Services teams within Business Solutions perform activities such as management of highly sensitive portfolios and paralegal services involving collection, legal and enforcement actions.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma and three years’ related experience in business administration with knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court, civil court procedures, and legislation pertaining to civil litigation in a collections and civil enforcement environment.
  • Excellent computer skills including full working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams is essential.
  • Ability to obtain APPRES Certification within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • Knowledge of the Civil Enforcement Act, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and various legislation
  • Post-secondary education in legal or office administration
  • Experience working in a public sector environment (eg. Government of Alberta)
  • APPRES Certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Respond to telephone and email inquiries from clients, debtors, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the preparation, execution, filing, and registration of various documentation required for legal action(s).
  • Work with client ministries in reviewing account information and offer recommendations.
  • Work with Administrators when dealing with Bankruptcy and Consumer Proposal orders and credit counsellors on Orderly Payment of Debt.
  • Process revenue in a timely/accurate manner to ensure account balances are current.
  • Legal enforcement registration and maintenance activities using Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System (APPRES).
  • Access Government of Alberta (GoA) and other databases to verify and obtain information pertinent to various phases of the legal enforcement process.
  • Maintaining and updating file records.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills, as it is essential for you to balance the various aspects of the position.
  • Be a self-motivated team player that uses your communication skills and problem-solving abilities to resolve issues often of a sensitive nature.
  • Perform detailed work with accuracy, prioritize tasks in accordance with timelines and handle a high volume of work that can involve interruptions.
