About The Position

This position is responsible for completing outpatient registration, which includes generating a chart with patient demographic information, collecting patient insurance and/or payment information, and obtaining appropriate signatures for patient certification of admission and assignment of benefits. The role also involves entering diagnosis codes, managing patient payments, providing medical information to requesting agencies, typing correspondence and reports, filing information, and entering medical record information into patient charts. The receptionist functions as the primary point of contact for telephone communication, answers the telephone, takes messages, and directs calls. Additionally, the role assists in scheduling referrals, maintaining medical record files, managing inventory of medical and office supplies, and participating in in-service and quality improvement programs. The receptionist works with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care services and maintains good public relations for the clinic. Other duties as needed or requested will also be performed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Typing speed of 35 WPM.
  • Proficiency with computer, typewriter, computer printer, and adding machine.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Ability to stand for small amounts of time.
  • Ability to walk considerable amounts during the course of a normal work day.
  • Ability to perform minimum lifting (15 to 20 pounds).
  • Essential visual ability for dealing with the public and operating office equipment.
  • Essential hearing ability for dealing with the public and operating office equipment.
  • Essential speaking ability for dealing with the public, operating the switchboard, and cashiering.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, balances, and accounts for patient payments, ensuring correct charges are entered.

  • Manages telephone communication, answering calls, taking messages, and directing calls.
  • Assists in scheduling referrals.
  • Stores medical record files in an organized system.
  • Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of medical and office supplies.
  • Participates in in-service programs.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement programs.
  • Works with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care services.
  • Maintains good public relations for the clinic.
