About The Position

This position is responsible for various administrative and patient-facing duties within the Portageville Clinic. Key functions include patient registration, managing patient information, handling payments, coordinating care, and maintaining office operations. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills to ensure efficient clinic functioning and positive patient experiences.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Typing speed of 35 WPM.
  • Proficiency with computer, typewriter, computer printer, and adding machine operation.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Ability to stand for small amounts of time.
  • Ability to walk considerable amounts during the course of a normal workday.
  • Ability to perform minimum lifting (15 to 20 pounds).
  • Essential visual ability for dealing with the public and operating office equipment.
  • Essential hearing ability for dealing with the public and operating office equipment.
  • Essential speaking ability for dealing with the public, operating the switchboard, and cashiering.

Responsibilities

  • Completes outpatient registration, including generating patient charts with demographic information.
  • Collects patient insurance and/or payment information.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures for patient certification of admission and assignment of benefits.
  • Enters diagnosis codes into the computer upon completion of patient assessment and/or treatment.
  • Receives, balances, and accounts for payments collected from patients, ensuring appropriate charges are entered.
  • Provides medical information to requesting agencies (e.g., disability determinations, vocational rehabilitation, family services).
  • Types correspondence and reports, and files information.
  • Enters medical record information into the appropriate patient chart.
  • Serves as the primary point of telephone communication for the physician office, answering calls, taking messages, and directing calls.
  • Assists in scheduling referrals as appropriate.
  • Stores medical record files in an organized retrieval system.
  • Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of medical and office supplies.
  • Participates in in-service programs.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement program as required.
  • Works with other members of the health care team to coordinate patient care services.
  • Maintains good public relations for the clinic.
  • Performs other duties as needed or requested.
