About The Position

The Receptionist position at Alabaster City Schools Central Office is responsible for providing clerical support, monitoring visitors for security, and assisting parents and others in acquiring information and making contact with appropriate Central Office Personnel. This role involves managing communications, maintaining records, and ensuring a professional and helpful demeanor when interacting with visitors and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of computer experience
  • Word processing skills
  • Experience in filing and record-keeping
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of business machines
  • Demonstrated telephone skills
  • Possess visual acuity.
  • Possess physical ability to carry items under 25 pounds.
  • Possess physical and emotional ability and dexterity as needed to perform assigned tasks in a fast-paced, high intensive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support for supervisors.
  • Monitor visitors for security purposes.
  • Type from straight copy/rough draft.
  • Use copy machines and other business machines.
  • Compile and type statistical and written reports.
  • File documents (alphabetic, subject, numeric, and geographic).
  • Answer telephone calls and route calls.
  • Meet and assist visitors in a helpful, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Assist parents and others in acquiring information and making contact with appropriate Central Office Personnel.
  • Compose and type letters of transmittal and routine letters of inquiry, requests, and information.
  • Open and sort mail, collect and distribute parcels, transmit and deliver facsimiles, update calendars, prepare travel vouchers, and perform basic bookkeeping.
  • Assist with work permits and required reports to the State.
  • Substitute for employees in other Central Office departments.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of school system information.
  • Maintain proper and professional relationships.
  • Perform duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.
  • Follow Board policies and procedures.
  • Perform other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
