About The Position

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day. In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks experienced and enthusiastic Receptionist for our Trial Division in the General Crimes Bureau (GCB) who will greet and receive visitors as well as answer phone calls in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma/GED and two years of reception experience in a law firm, government agency, or another professional environment.
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to effectively multi-task.
  • Familiarity with the Criminal Justice system and general court services preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Discretion and integrity to work on highly confidential investigations
  • The ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.
  • Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Criminal Justice system and general court services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Check IDs and subpoenas of witnesses and walk-ins and direct them to the appropriate staff member, ensuring assistance is provided in a timely fashion.
  • Answer all calls at the front desk and redirect calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Keep Assistant District Attorneys and appropriate staff informed about the arrival of their witnesses and victims.
  • Notify Assistant District Attorneys about the arrival of Police Officer witnesses and direct them to appropriate waiting areas if necessary.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of all witnesses in the bureau’s logbook.
  • Communicate with interpreter staff and help Assistant District Attorneys to secure the assistance of an interpreter whenever needed.
  • Perform all other bureau-related duties as needed and assigned.
