About The Position

The Receptionist is responsible for greeting patients and visitors, assisting with appointment scheduling, obtaining and entering patient demographics, billing, and insurance information into the billing system. This role also involves securing necessary HIPAA paperwork, maintaining confidentiality, liaising with patients, family members, and healthcare providers, answering telephones professionally, collecting payments, managing office supply inventory, and ensuring all HIPAA and DHH standards are met. The position requires verifying insurance information and performing other duties as assigned by management.

  • Must control self emotionally and maintain a stable psyche.
  • Be able to perform job skills.
  • Must utilize safety precautions, protect and provide safety for the patient (bed low, rails up, call bell within reach).
  • Must have command of manual dexterity to work with instruments, needles, etc.
  • Must be able to see clearly (corrective wear acceptable).
  • Must be able to hear adequately (hearing aid acceptable).
  • Must be able to speak clearly for proper communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of family practice preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Receives patients and visitors and provides assistance in scheduling appointments.
  • Obtains correct and current patient demographics, billing information, and insurance information, and accurately enters information into the billing system.
  • Secures all necessary HIPPA paperwork and maintains the strictest confidentiality, adhering to all HIPPA guidelines/regulations.
  • Liaises with patients, family members, and health care providers in a compassionate and professional manner.
  • Answers telephone in a professional manner.
  • Collects necessary money for patient visits, copays, deductibles, and past due balances in a courteous and professional manner and gives patient a receipt of payment.
  • Manages inventory of office supplies and notifies management of any supplies needed.
  • Secures appropriate patient packets.
  • Maintains and distributes school excuses.
  • Works effectively with others and as a team member.
  • Maintains a high standard of work even under pressure of deadlines and frequent interruptions, remaining professional, responsive, and cooperative.
  • Ensures all standards for HIPPA and DHH are met.
  • Verifies insurance information correctly.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by Manager, CEO, COO.
