About The Position

O'Toole's Garden Centers is seeking a hands-on, organized, and plant-savvy Receiving Lead. This role is crucial for managing incoming products, accounting for inventory, and ensuring the receiving operation runs smoothly. The Receiving Lead will be responsible for organizing, accounting for, and preparing products for the garden center. This position involves seasonal supervisory responsibilities and reports to the Store Manager and Assistant Manager. The role requires full-time availability of 36+ hours per week, including weekend availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • At least 2 years of shipping/receiving warehouse experience.
  • Strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, and tropical plants.
  • Experience operating a forklift, pallet jack, and electronic pallet jack.
  • Strong work ethic and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize when deliveries and plants are coming in fast.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and accuracy.
  • Ability to create and follow processes that keep receiving efficient during busy seasons.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google tools, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Full-time availability of 36+ hours per week, including weekends.
  • Weekend availability is required during peak season.
  • Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stay on your feet throughout your shift.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English.

Nice To Haves

  • A.A. or bachelor's degree.
  • 2+ years of garden center retail experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • 3+ years of shipping/receiving warehouse experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and count incoming products with accuracy.
  • Ensure products are received according to standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and report damages and shortages.
  • Ensure invoices are properly signed and documented.
  • Complete and track claims for damaged or missing products.
  • Communicate product delays and availability changes.
  • Work with management to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Coordinate receiving schedules with vendors.
  • Create and maintain a receiving calendar.
  • Keep vendor pickups, storage, racks, and breakdown removal organized.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and ready receiving area.
  • Assess arriving plants for health and retail readiness.
  • Ensure plants receive proper care and watering during arrival and unloading.
  • Safely and efficiently move products to the appropriate departments.
  • Protect the quality of products from the moment they arrive.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and enthusiastically.
  • Build positive working relationships with vendors, drivers, delivery teams, and coworkers.
  • Encourage strong communication throughout the receiving process.
  • Bring solutions to the table.
