About The Position

BJ’s Wholesale Club is seeking a Receiving/Inventory Supervisor to oversee the receiving department. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate receipt and disposition of merchandise and inventory within the club. The supervisor will manage paperwork processing, verify merchandise against purchase orders, check for damaged products and shortages, and ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures. The position emphasizes leadership, team development, member service excellence, and maintaining club standards. The supervisor will also be responsible for operational tasks such as processing shipments, managing product pricing and signage, using RF guns, and ensuring all receiving paperwork is complete and accurate. Additionally, the role involves coordinating delivery schedules, conducting self-audits, securing receiving doors, inspecting items leaving the building, managing truck dock operations, verifying seal integrity, monitoring high shrink merchandise, processing Direct Store Delivery (DSD) shipments, executing merchandise protection, and operating compactors and balers. The supervisor acts as a mentor to team members and reports any issues to management, while also performing other duties as assigned and maintaining club policies. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of this job.

Requirements

  • Forklift operator required.
  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Prior experience working in a big box receiving environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the receiving department, ensuring the accurate receipt and disposition of merchandise and inventory.
  • Process paperwork, verify merchandise against purchase orders, and check for damaged products/concealed shortages.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

  • Identify and correct process breakdowns before they negatively impact club performance metrics.
  • Communicate the connection between operational performance and achieving club financial targets.
  • Maintain the operations of the receiving department, including matching received inventory against purchase orders and reviewing discrepancies.
  • Process inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Ensure all product pricing and signage is displayed.
  • Ensure radio frequency (RF) guns are used when receiving merchandise.
  • Ensure all receiving paperwork is complete and accurate.
  • Separate pallets and verify that pallets are in the correct selling or non-selling location.
  • Supervise Receivers and/or Receiving Clerk.
  • Act as a mentor to team members in the receiving/inventory control department.
  • Report any issues to management.
  • Communicate with Logistics.
  • Oversee and coordinate the delivery schedules.
  • Complete the department self-audit with detail and accuracy.
  • Complete receiving documents and other daily reports.
  • Ensure processes are in place to secure the receiving doors when not in use and properly check in visitors and vendors.
  • Ensure processes are in place to inspect bags, backpacks, briefcases, and lunch boxes/bags leaving the building.
  • Assign truck door locations and ensure drivers are outside of their trucks while it is being unloaded.
  • Ensure trucks are secured while on the dock and that full trailer loads are empty when departing the dock.
  • Ensure all safety equipment (e.g., dock restraint system) is in proper working condition.
  • Ensure the receiving/employee entrance is alarmed when not in use, receiving and overhead doors are properly sealed, and alarms are operational.
  • Verify the seal integrity of all trucks, including distribution center loads and frozen/dairy shipments.
  • Monitor distribution center loads to ensure all high shrink merchandise is properly secured.
  • Ensure high shrink merchandise is removed from the dock at the end of the receiving day.
  • Confirm incoming and outgoing Direct Store Delivery (DSD) quantities and ensure they are processed correctly.
  • Execute merchandise protection on designated items.
  • Validate that all merchandise leaving the back doors has appropriate paperwork and approvals.
  • Operate the compactor and cardboard baler and secure the equipment when not in use.
  • Maintain all club policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed.
