About The Position
The Receiving Chemist I is responsible for receiving, sampling, coding, consolidating, and shipping hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials in accordance with company, state, federal, and environmental regulations. This role supports facility operations through waste analysis, inventory management, chemical handling, and maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Requirements
- 2 years of college coursework or specialized training in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
- 0–3 years of related experience preferred
- 24-Hour OSHA Training required
- Forklift training required
- Strong understanding of chemistry, chemical testing, and hazardous waste handling
- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing business needs and work well within a team environment
- Proficient in Windows-based applications
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, operate forklifts, and work in physically demanding conditions
Responsibilities
- Receive, open, sample, and analyze incoming drums and lab packs in accordance with facility Waste Analysis Plans (WAP) and company procedures
- Code and process incoming waste materials for disposal, transportation, and billing purposes using WIN system and barcode tracking
- Perform chemical consolidation, repacking, and bulking activities while maintaining proper safety procedures
- Stage and prepare outbound shipments in accordance with DOT/TDG and environmental regulations
- Maintain inventory levels, organize storage areas, and verify incoming shipments against manifests and paperwork
- Operate forklifts and other facility equipment safely while performing daily inspections
- Calibrate and operate laboratory equipment for basic chemical analysis
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all OSHA and Clean Harbors Health & Safety policies
- Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately and timely
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs
