About The Position

The Home Depot is seeking a Receiving Associate who thrives on helping others succeed, enjoys making an impact, and takes pride in guiding customers to the right solutions for their projects. This role is for someone who is naturally curious and eager to keep learning. Receiving Associates work as part of a team to unload merchandise from carriers and check the quantity and quality of merchandise. They are responsible for RGR (Rough Goods Receipt)/DGR (Detail Goods Receipt) and entering information about incoming merchandise into the stores’ system using the tools provided. All Receiving Associates are required to be licensed to use powered lift equipment, which may be used when unloading trucks and moving freight from receiving to designated staging areas. A successful Receiving Associate must have a high level of work commitment, attention to detail, and the ability to learn and follow procedures. Associates in this role must be able to use the store systems/tools to identify product, article and vendor information, product location, and store layout to provide the most efficient and highest quality service to our customers. Freight Team associates may also be required to pick orders when assigned, utilizing the Order Fulfillment Application.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of receiving experience.
  • Ability to be licensed to use powered lift equipment.

  • Ability to use store systems/tools to identify product, article, and vendor information, product location, and store layout.
  • Ability to pick orders when assigned, utilizing the Order Fulfillment Application.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, and move items.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move heavy and bulky items without assistance.
  • Ability to respond to public address system announcements and listen for customer service calls, personal pages, and general information announcements.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to identify and read reports, tickets, and UPC labels.
  • Ability to climb a ladder up to 12-16 feet to obtain or stock merchandise.
  • Ability to handle merchandise and work with tools with sharp edges.
  • Ability to handle merchandise and work with tools that may contain hazardous material.

Responsibilities

  • Unload merchandise from carriers and check the quantity and quality of merchandise.
  • Perform RGR (Rough Goods Receipt)/DGR (Detail Goods Receipt) and enter information about incoming merchandise into the stores’ system.
  • Operate powered lift equipment (e.g., electric pallet jack, reach truck, order puller, forklift) for unloading trucks and moving freight.
  • Understand carrier unload processes for efficient freight management.
  • Follow receiving standards strictly.
  • Clean and maintain the receiving area, including removing pallets and cardboard boxes, using the compactor and bailer, and clearing space for new merchandise.
  • Receive all types of inbound freight, including BOSS and special orders.
  • Identify and read vendor packing slips, carrier shipping documents, UPC labels, and other receiving documents, comparing them to purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Schedule deliveries and enter pre-post information into the receiving system.
  • Count carton freight and RGR merchandise to satisfy freight bills.
  • Identify damaged merchandise and take appropriate action.
  • Stock merchandise onto shelves to achieve 100% in-stock.
  • Use appropriate safety procedures when organizing merchandise.
  • Merchandise new items as directed.
  • Build end caps and promotions.
  • Break down and dispose of trash by the end of the shift.
  • Maintain safe and organized overheads.
  • Communicate with other Freight Team members to ensure all product is stocked in the proper place.
  • Communicate in-stock levels of merchandise with the Fulfillment Team.
  • Demonstrate GET behaviors consistently.
  • Approach and greet customers.
  • Ask open-ended questions and express interest in projects to put the customer at ease, determine their level of expertise, and determine their needs.
  • Maintain schedule.
  • Unload merchandise.
